How these are made

There is no artist and no clip art. Each page is drawn by a program from a single number called a seed. The same seed always produces the same drawing, which is why every design here has a fixed number you can come back to.

The program picks a structure — concentric bands, radiating spokes, nested polygons, interlocking circles, spirals, woven rings and several more — then a style, a level of detail, and a set of decorations. Before a design is published, its recipe is checked against every recipe already used. If it matches one, the program rolls again. No two pages on this site share a structural recipe, and none ever will.

Because the drawings are vector, they print sharp at any size, from a postcard to a poster. The PDF files are true vector too, not pictures of a drawing.
